On 1st December 2021, the one-month-long state of emergency introduced in September 2021 along the Polish-Belarusian border expired after having been extended for a further 60 days.

On 9th November 2021, a state of emergency was declared, concerning bordering territories, by the Lithuanian Seimas as a consequence of the emergency situation arising from the migrant crisis at the border with Belarus.

The number of COVID-19 infections experienced a steady and sharp rise during the Fall in Greece, reaching over 6,000 daily infections in November 2021.

​On 27th September 2021, the Hungarian parliament approved an extension of the state of emergency until 1st January 2022.

Due to steeply rising coronavirus cases, the Belgian government has tightened COVID-19 measures such as mask requirements, which had been relaxed in some regions earlier in October 2021.

Legislative elections in Czech Republic were held on 8th and 9th October 2021, resulting in a positive outcome for the centre-right SPOLU (Together) coalition, with 27.79% of the vote.

On 11th October 2021, after holding consultations with all parties in parliament, President Klaus Iohannis proposed the leader of the centre-right Save Romania Union (USR, formerly USR Plus), Dacian Ciolos, as a candidate to form a new government.

Lithuania has experienced a steady rise in COVID-19 infections since July 2021 and is ranking 1st in the European Union in terms of a 14-day case notification rate per 100,000 inhabitants in mid-October 2021.

On 7th October 2021, the government controlled Constitutional Tribunal ruled that the Polish constitution trumps EU law, sparking concerns of a “Polexit” (Poland's exit from the EU).

The fifth wave hit Spain in July 2021 with tens of thousands of new COVID-19 infection cases every week. Thanks to the vaccinations the death rate is however much lower.
