The European Union may not be the perfect example of democracy, but it is indeed a democratic regime, and one that deserves our moral support.
While all of us should have a say in the collective decisions that deeply affect our lives, many of us would rather spend time with family instead of educating ourselves on VAT thresholds and shipping regulations.
Would you say that this system indeed respects your equal dignity, is worthy of our moral support and therefore, that it should be called democracy? Of course not. The tyranny of the majority is simply not democracy.

Chances are, your life is deeply affected by your social, cultural and economic environment. If you aren't allowed to participate in the decisions that affect that environment, others will be the masters of your life.
Even though authoritarianism and populism is on the rise, the public’s commitment to democracy is still quite high. But is democracy worthy of our support? And why? What good reasons can we have for wanting to live in a democracy?
The world is messy. We cannot put things into neat categories. Like democracy. And that's fine – we should embrace the disorderliness and chill.
