Hungary will request at the European Commission that the EU finances half of the cost of its wall
being built on its southern border to 'protect' the country from migrants, PM Viktor Orban’s chief of staff, Janos Lazar, announced on Thursday. Hungary, with
its fence and police on the borders with Serbia and Croatia, "was
protecting all the citizens of Europe from the flood of illegal migrants," Lázár argued to defend the 400 million euros' request. With this latest move, Orbán is maintaining his campaign to keep asylum seekers and migrants out of Hungary ahead of next year's elections.
