Research by the Dutch National Agency for Identity Data shows that on average, one out of every 10 passports has the fingerprints upside down. It has been a few years since fingerprints, processed in a chip, began being recorded. Very likely, things went wrong at the municipal passport desks as a result of wrong use of the equipment used for taking fingerprints. According to Minister of the Interior Ronald Plasterk, there are no direct implications for citizens, as the fingerprints have not yet been used.
