The prime minister of the Czech Republic has said that he "doesn't really understand" why people are protesting after hundreds of thousands took to the streets of Prague on Monday. In a statement on his website, Prime Minister Andrej Babis denied allegations of corruption against him and vowed not to give in to the protesters' demands. Opposition to Babis has been fueled by the appointment of a new justice minister, as prosecutors try to decide whether to indict Babis over alleged fraud involving European Union funds.
Despite his bemusement, Babis survived a no-confidence vote early Thursday.
