The newspaper eldiario.es has learned that since the "gag law" came into force, 6,217 fines have been imposed (equivalent to 30 daily) for "disrespect towards members of the security forces." These are imposed pursuant to Article 37.4 of the law, which, as Rights International Spain has reported on numerous occasions, is too vague and ambiguous and its application permits fines for expressing critical views on policing and therefore is contrary to freedom of expression.
