Theresa May’s “hostile environment” immigration policy, highlighted by the Windrush scandal, is being used by abusive and violent men to threaten and control their partners, says the End Violence Against Women Coalition. Women fearing deportation are often afraid to seek help, the group warns, explaining that those reliant on a spousal visa are becoming so fearful of deportation they aren't reporting crimes of domestic or sexual violence to the police. Migrant women in the UK were disproportionately at risk from gender-based violence, as well as honor-based violence and forced marriage.
