The presidential election in the Czech Republic has escalated after incumbent Milos Zeman’s supporters published
ads that said, “Stop migration and Drahoš, this country is ours,
vote for Zeman”. While Zeman's opponent, pro-EU academic Jiří Drahoš, has focused on the issue of migration in his campaign, has never said he wants to
open the country to migrants, nor does he support relocation mechanisms
proposed by Brussels. Zeman is also battling
disinformation. Before the first election round, voters received leaflets falsely saying that he will go through to the second round
automatically.
