During April and May, the Committee will discuss the second periodic report of the Czech Republic on the implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. The outcome of this discussions will be recommendations of the Committee for the Czech Republic.
The Shadow Report focuses primarily on the rights of children younger than 15 years of age in criminal proceedings and healthcare (vaccinations, home births and overburdening of doctors in public hospitals).
We encourage the Committee to find that part of the rights of children to special protection is also the right to criminal proceedings for suspected children(adapted to the age of child). During these kinds of proceedings, not every suspicion needs to be necessarily resolved before the court (that is now happening in cases of children younger than 15 years). Furthermore, the proceedings must provide children with the sufficient guarantees against ill-treatment (e.g. from criminal proceedings authorities), mainly the obligatory provision of legal assistance.
We have sent to the same Committe another report, together with ERRC and MDAC, in which we have criticized, among other things, the inability of the state to ensure the equal access to education for all children.
