Amnesty International is ringing the alarm about the use of tasers by police forces. They deem the use of a taser, in situations that are not directly life-threatening, a violation of the prohibition on torture and inhuman, degrading treatment. The organisations argues that police officers choose too easily tasers over other options and that a closer investigation is necessary. It is not the first time that the use of tasers is questioned: previous warnings were issued by the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights, CPT, NGO's and the UN.
