In its annual report, Amnesty warns of the decline of human rights in the EU. Laws adopted in Hungary make it almost impossible for NGOs to do their work in an effective manner. Moreover, the Polish government's moves against the judiciary, media and NGOs are detrimental to fundamental rights and the rule of law. Amnesty also observes a decline in human rights in states like France, where legislation on counter-terorrism negatively impacts fundamental rights. Finally, the proposed Intelligence and Security Act in the Netherlands infringes on the right to privacy and freedom of speech.
