Apple CEO Tim Cook expressed his company’s supports for Europe’s news data protection regulation, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). At the International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners in Brussels, Cook renewed Apple’s commitment to protect the personal data of users, which he fears is being “weaponized” against them. He applauded the EU for its new data privacy law, which came into force in May 2018. The GDPR has brought a series of changes to the way digital companies do business on the continent and introduced harsh penalties and fines to enforce them.
