Around 50 Arab League and EU leaders met for the first Arab-European summit in Sharm El-Sheik, Egypt, to discuss topics ranging from migration to terrorism. Despite strong disagreements over human rights, they pledged to enter a “new era” of cooperation that will boost stability and prosperity in both regions. The EU has a great interest in deepening cooperation with North African countries, if only to curb irregular migration to Europe. The next summit will take place in Brussels in 2022.
