In response to the recent arson attack on the newspaper Athens Voice, as well as in response to every similar attempt to use violence as a means to confront opinions and ideas, The Hellenic League for Human Rights calls to mind that which should be self-evident: that freedom of expression includes not only ideas with which we agree or are neutral toward, but also those which we are against, even those that offend, shock or disrupt society. Supporting a newspaper that was attacked by people who disagree with its views is a political and social necessity.
