Austria's EU presidency intends to keep pressure on member states to fulfill their obligations in taking in asylum seekers. The concept of "mandatory solidarity" in agreeing to reforms of EU migration policy wasn't realized under the previous four EU presidencies, but Austria hopes to at least get EU states to agree in principle to mandatory solidarity, creating a more unified foundation for future reforms of EU migration regulations. The current proposal of the European Commission includes plans to automatically asylum seekers across the EU, despite strong objection from Hungary and others.
