The ruling GERB party and Reformist Bloc proposed amendments that will enable investigation of crimes committed during the communist regime in Bulgaria, such as the killings in labor camps and the ethnic assimilation during the so-called Revival Process. The bill has been presented for discussion in Parliament and will eliminate the statute of limitations for such crimes through amendments to the criminal code, if adopted. The proposal covers internationally recognized crimes against humanity, including attacks on civilians, enslavement, deportation, torture, forced pregnancy and others.
