The European Union should use force to defend its external borders, Bulgaria's defense minister has told Die Welt. Krasimir Karakachanov said he wanted to more than triple the number of troops stationed on his country’s border with Turkey, from 140 to 600 soldiers, in an effort to further curb immigration. "We cannot allow illegal immigrants to come to Europe as a whole," said Karakachanov, who is a member of the far-right United Patriots. "We should deploy NATO or EU forces in Italy and Greece and defend the external borders of the European Union by force of arms if necessary."
