The National Assembly adopted at first reading a bill that bans outside funding for professional organizations of judges, prosecutors and investigators. The proposal was approved without a debate. There were 116 votes in favor, 6 against and 52 abstentions. MPs from the ruling coalition expressed their high regard for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his policies, which inspired the creation of this draft law.

NGOs, as well as organizations of judges, lawyers and prosecutors, expressed their strong disapproval. The European Commission is also monitoring the situation.
