Members of the European Parliament's Civil
Liberties Committee (LIBE) declared Poland is at risk of breaching EU values and
called on member states for swift action regarding the rule of law situation. MEPs are particularly concerned about the separation of powers, independence of the
judiciary and fundamental rights. LIBE endorsed the European Commission’s
decision to propose activating Article 7 (1) of the EU Treaty (clear risk of a serious breach of EU
values), and ask Poland to address the risk, by 33 votes to nine. The
resolution will be put to a plenary vote in a future session.
