Thousands of people came to Frankfurt Wednesday to demonstrate against the European Central Bank during the opening of its new headquarters. Riots started early in the morning, causing damage and leaving 350 people injured, including 150 police officers. In the afternoon an estimated 20,000 people participated in a mainly peaceful demonstration in Frankfurt's historic Römerberg square. The German Bundestag condemned the violence and criticized the Blockupy organizers. Blockupy spokesman Frederic Wester said such an escalation was not their aim.
