The EU is reducing its overall target of the number of asylum seekers that must be relocated from Italy and Greece by September. EU government had initially committed relocating 160,000 asylum seekers under a two-year plan, but this was later amended to around 98,000. The new target is likely to drop all the way to 33,000, in part because the number of people eligible for the scheme is far lower than initially stated. The revision does mean that even if EU states don't meet their stated quotas, they are still likely to relocate those who have been registered.
