The EU's justice commissioner, Vera Jourova, told members of the European Parliament on Wednesday, 7 February, that Romania is facing a "crucial moment" as the country's parliament debates two controversial laws on the judiciary, both of which have been deemed unconstitutional. The amendments were passed in December and are under review by Romania's top court, which already ruled parts of them unconstitutional. "This is a crucial moment now that the first two draft laws are back in the parliament following the rulings of the constitutional court," Jourova said.
