At the beginning of May, the Czech Supreme Court acknowledged a decision by a judge in the US state of California, which declared a pair of Czech gay men as the legal parents of a newly born child. The child was born to a surrogate mother in California a few months ago. The egg (provided by a donor) was fertilized by the sperm of one of the future fathers. This is the first Czech gay couple recognized as lawful parents.
Same sex couples cannot marry in Czech Republic. They can form a registered partnership, and the law does not allow them to adopt children together.
