A new report by the Council of Europe warns of the increasing backlash against access to abortion in some EU member states in recent years. Europe's top human rights organisation called the trend 'deeply troubling' and noted that even in states where abortion is fully legal, a wave of 'retrogressive restrictions' are threatening women's health and well-being. The report was particularly critical of Poland, where women face enormous barriers to access abortion, but Slovakia, Latvia, Lithuania and Romania were also singled out for criticism.
