The government proposed a draft law on March 18 to provide the legal basis for the German Institute for Human Rights. After the coalition partners agreed on the draft law, the International Coordinating Committee of National Human Rights Institutions announced that it will review the institute’s status as a national human rights institution in autumn 2015. The proceedings to review the status of the German Institute for Human Rights first started in autumn 2013 and were initially postponed to March 2015. For a long time it seemed that the institute would lose its A-status.
