Two years ago, lawyer Bénédicte Ficq brought charges against four tobacco companies on behalf of the Youth Smoking Prevention Foundation and two patients who had become seriously ill due to smoking. The suit accuses the companies of attempted murder and forgery. Dutch pediatricians, united under the Dutch Association for Pediatrics, are now joining the case, as have the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital, which specializes in cancer treatment, the Groningen Academic Hospital, the Dutch Cancer Society, the cities of Amsterdam and Utrecht and the entire addiction treatment industry.
