Among youths with a Turkish, Moroccan, Surinam or Antillean background, 56 per cent say that they would 'definitely not' want to work for the Dutch police force. For Dutch natives, this percentage is only 31 per cent. Youths with a migrant background fear discrimination and disapproving reactions from family. The results are a reason for the police to actively recruit 'new Dutch nationals'. Amsterdam's police chief wants half of new officers in his force have a migration background, stating that this diversity is needed to increase the effectiveness of the police.
