Last Sunday, Dutchman Ang Kiem Soei was executed in Indonesia. Ang was sentenced to death in 2003 for his alleged involvement in the production of ecstasy. Together with five others who had been convicted for drug-related crimes, he was put in front of a firing squad. According to Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Bert Koenders, the Netherlands had used all available means - legal, diplomatic and bilateral means, also in a European context - in order to pursuade the Indonesian authorities not to carry out the execution. King Willem-Alexander has contacted Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
