The European Court of Human Rights has found that Lithuania violated Article 3 (freedom from torture) and Article 6 (right to a fair trial) of the European Convention on Human Rights in the case of TK v. Lithuania. The Court stated that things like the relevant authorities taking away and withholding the detainee’s glasses during detention (totaling 5 months) despite the latter’s pleas were tantamount to inhuman treatment. The Court also found that the Lithuanian courts did not do all that they could to summon all potential witnesses, thus violating the right to a fair trial.
