After agonising over its relations with Hungarian member party Fidesz, on Wednesday evening in Brussels the European People’s Party agreed to suspend the membership of Viktor Orbán’s party. The EPP will send an "evaluation committee" which will examine whether Fidesz has fulfilled the conditions set out for the Hungarian party after the European elections. Former EU council president Herman Van Rompuy will lead the committee, backed by former European Parliament president Hans-Gert Pottering and former Austrian prime minister Wolfgang Schussel.
