European citizens and MEPs alike are excited but wary about using the internet to enhance democracy. While it could be a great way to connect citizens directly with their representatives and other officials, there is great concern over its safety and vulnerability to hacking – so much so that authorities said all votes cast in the recent Dutch elections would be counted manually.
