The European Parliament is reviewing a proposed amendment to the Eurodac Regulation for fingerprinting migrants. The system, the electronic centerpiece of the Dublin III Regulation, has been criticised for being arbitrary and difficult to enforce. When someone applies for asylum, regardless of where in EU they apply, their fingerprints are taken and stored on the Eurodac system. But the extraordinarily large influx of migrants to Europe in recent years has strained authorities' capacity to enforce the regulation for all new arrivals.
