To strengthen the connection between national and European parties, a reform stipulates that only national parties - not individuals - will be allowed to create a European party eligible for funding. The proposal, approved by the European Parliament’s (EP) Constitutional Affairs Committee, obliges parties to display the logo and political manifesto of their affiliated European party on their sites and false information will lead to de-registration. The revamp of rules aims to improve transparency and guarantee proper use of public funds in an effort to bring citizens closer to the EU.
