Earlier this month, Privacy International, together with legal scholars and 26 human and digital rights organisations, including Liberties member the Italian Coalition for Civil Liberties and Rights, filed an amicus brief to the United States Supreme Court in United States v. Microsoft Corp. The brief highlights how the US government’s position undermines
the fundamental right to privacy by overriding the data-protection laws of Ireland and the EU. The US government has attempted to
compel Microsoft to hand over emails and other private data, much of which is stored in Ireland.
