"We are not financing the construction of fences or
barriers at the external borders," an EC spokesperson told. Hungarian PM
Viktor Orbán last week
requested the EU to pay half of the claimed 800 million euros the
government spent on the fence on its southern borders. The EC in its response
reminded the Hungarian government about solidarity noting Hungary’s refusal to
take in asylum seekers: "Solidarity is a two-way street, and all member
states should be ready to contribute. This is not some sort of a la carte menu
where you pick one dish," - added the EC spokesperson.
