The identity card of Pol Naydenov says that he is a woman, who was born with no prominent signs of either of the sexes. This is the first known case of an intersex person in Bulgaria who wants to change the sex as listed on their identity documents. Naydenov has appealed a lower court's initial refusal, citing Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which provides that "everyone has the right to respect for his private life." The Bulgarian Administrative Court will consider his appeal in May.
