The Juvenile Court of Rome has authorized the adoption of a child who lives with a same-sex (lesbian) couple and is the biological son of one of the partners. This is the first case of "stepchild adoption" in Italy. The child was born in Spain with heterologous assisted reproduction. After the birth, the couple decided to get married in Spain. In Germany, Finland and Greenland, same-sex couples can adopt their partner’s existing children, while in Denmark, Spain, Norway, Belgium, UK, Netherlands, and Sweden, gay couples have been granted the right to adopt children together.
