Refugees in the UK face hunger and homelessness immediately after being granted asylum, a new report has found. The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Refugees report shows current policies are creating a "two-tier system" of refugee protection: those who entered the country on government-sanctioned resettlement schemes are generally provided for; those who did not are often left homeless and destitute. The report notes "worrying" delays in the issuing of National Insurance numbers, which newly recognized refugees need to gain access to finance and housing when their asylum support ends.
