The Norwegian government has decided to allow police to compel the use of biometric authentication, as proposed in an
amendment to the code of criminal proceeding. Article 199 states that if anyone refuses a demand
for biometric authentication, the police may
perform the authentication by force. Experts say the lack of specificity
of an "electronic system" gives too wide a scope of application for
authorities. For example, giving access to a smart phone could mean that
authorities can gain access to all cloud-based storage services, and with it a nearly complete description of a persons life.
