Thirty-seven people were arrested on December 2 in connection with an inquiry into a corruption scandal involving former mayor of Rome Gianni Alemanno. The investigation is looking into Mr. Alemanno's mafia connections and allegations of extortion, bribery and money laundering in connection with public works contracts. There are also claims of corruption involving the management of Roma camps in the city.
