While France has the largest voting gender gap among EU countries, the overall situation is concerning when it comes to representation of women in politics. Women tend to be less visible in local politics too, a new report by Committee of the Regions, an EU institution of local and regional representatives, reveals. Similarly, just more than 36 percent of MEPs in 2017 were women. According to a European Institute of Gender Equality report only 13 percent of elected mayors, 29 percent of members of regional parliaments, and around 36 percent of members of regional governments are female.
