The comedian Jan Böhmermann has been banned from reciting parts of his poem satirizing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The Hamburg court ruled that satire involving sexual references of the Turkish president are unacceptable. According to the country's freedom of expression laws, Böhmermann can still recite 6 of the 24 lines, but if he recites the banned parts again, he faces a fine of 250,000 euros or 6 months in prison. Christian Schertz, the satirist’s lawyer, will appeal against the ruling and said it was "against artistic freedom."
