Police in Germany have opened 10 cases against far-right protesters who gave the illegal Hitler salute during the protests in Chemnitz on 27 August. Far-right groups marched in the eastern German city and clashes broke out between the extremists and counter-protesters, leading to the stabbing death of a 35-year-old German man. Media outlets reported that many Hitler salutes were made during the events. Nazi symbols, including the swastika and salute, are banned in Germany. Performing a Nazi salute is punishable by a fine or jail term.
