After two years of waiting, the Greek Parliament will finally consider new anti-racism legislation. The legislation punishes public provocations to violence and hatred based on race, ethnicity, gender, etc., and punishes the denial of "genocides" recognized by international bodies and the Greek government. The legislation has provoked strong criticism for three reasons: it does not punish hate crimes, but hate speech; it does not provide any support to victims of racist attacks; and it limits free speech by penalizing denial of such a wide range of "genocides."
