Key EU rights, such as freedom of travel within the union and the right to vote in European elections, should be retained by UK citizens after Brexit, said Guy Verhofstadt, the head of the liberal group of MEPs. Verhofstadt told the BBC that he had received over 1,000 letters from UK citizens who were afraid of losing their relationship with "European civilization." He also said that the issue of ensuring people's civil rights and liberties must be a priority and "cannot be part of the political games" that hamper Brexit negotiations.
