Ensaf Haidar accepted the 2015 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought on December 16 on behalf of her husband, Raif Badawi, a Saudi human rights activist and blogger who remains in prison. Badawi was honored by the European Parliament for his fight for freedom of speech and thought in Saudi Arabia. "Raif is not a criminal," Ensaf said. "He is a writer and a free thinker: that is all. Raif Badawi’s crime is being a free voice in a country which does not accept anything other than a single opinion and a single thought. Awarding the Sakharov Prize to Raif Badawi is historic."
