Hungary's ruling Fidesz party has finally taken responsibility for its shameful declaration that the Hungarian Helsinki Committee, a leading human rights group in the country, is a 'fake NGO' that carried out 'political orders of international speculative financial capital'. The Helsinki Committee filed suit against the government after the comments were made, and two courts ruled that the government must pay damages and apologise. Compensation was paid, but the government had until now refused to apologise. Following another court order, it has said it 'regrets' the comments.
