For this past International Women’s Day (March 8), the European Commission again emphasized its commitment to implementing measures that would ensure gender equality throughout the EU. According to the most recent data from Eurobarometer, 76 percent of respondents think that overcoming gender inequality should be an EU priority. Eurostat shows that the wage disparity between the sexes has not changed, with women earning 16.4% less than men per hour. The Commission’s annual report on equality between men and women also shows that, despite some progress, gender equality is still out of reach.
