The Italian Army will begin growing marijuana for medical purposes at the army chemical plant of Florence. After controversies and delays, the ministers of defense and health came to an agreement that will be made public in October. Florence's plant, created to produce medicines for the armed forces, had extended its activity to the civilian sector. It will now prepare medicines derived from cannabis to be used in chemotherapy and in treating symptoms of AIDS, neuropathy, multiple sclerosis, ALS and glaucoma. Medical marijuana grown at the Florence facility could be on sale as early as 2015.
