Matteo Salvini will make the request during a meeting of European interior ministers on Thursday Innsbruck, Austria. Italy's far-right government has made immigration a point of focus since taking power and has already blocked several rescue ships from its ports. Salvini's request will further complicate the EU's internal debate on how to deal with the migration issue, which is causing friction between many member states.
